Run for cover Lads...it's Dad's Army
Dad's Army took a village by storm yesterday. Three thousand people eagerly surrendered 20p each to watch the stars of the famous TV show play a local team at cricket. It was a big day for Hayfield, Derbyshire, birthplace of the show's 60-year-old star, Arthur Lowe. He turned out his men to help raise £5,000, so that the Hayfield Club can buy its ground. "Captain Mainwaring" saw his men go down fighting. They lost by 24 runs. (Daily Mirror Monday 9 May 1976)
